Efficacy. What is the electricity used for – to generate LIGHT or HEAT?
The main benefit of LED lighting devices is an extremely high efficacy.
Check the comparison below:
An incandescent light bulb converts only 3-10% of energy to light, the rest is used for heating. So, your incandescent light bulb of 60W used to generate light, in fact, uses only 6W for light generation. | Light diode (LED) devices, in reverse; use energy up to 95% to generate light. |
It is meant by the fact that the same amount of light with a LUMO device would take 10 times less of electricity. As a result, you would get 10 times smaller bill for electricity!
Luminaire efficacy is measured by lm / W (lumen, lm – unit of luminous flux), i.e. volume of luminous flux generated by 1W lamp. If the comparative efficacy of incandescent lamps is 10-15 lm/W, halogen lamps – 15-25 lm/W, and fluorescent (day light) lamps 50-90 lm/W, the light diode (LED) illuminators may reach up to 120 lm/W (in laboratory conditions - up to 350 lm/W).
